The anti-poaching patrols of the Save the Rhino Trust often involve local people from low-income communities fighting to save their natural heritage. While facing danger from wild animals and armed rhino poachers, the dedicated teams work closely with local communities to balance their needs with wildlife protection.
In Indonesia, Dr Galdikas, co-founder of the Orangutan Foundation, persuaded the government to establish a wildlife reserve, planted 100,000 trees, and opened an orangutan care centre that has returned over 600 apes into the wild. We can’t all open a wildlife sanctuary, but there are many things we can do to protect our planet, and be an everyday wildlife warrior.
