When Olivier Levasseur, a French pirate nicknamed La Buse (The Buzzard), was executed in 1730, legend has it that he threw a cryptogram into the crowd and cried, “Find my treasure, he who can!” Three centuries later, the Swiss historian, investigator, and crossword writer Daniel Krieg solved the riddle to reveal a treasure map.
The documentary follows Krieg’s team, including an archaeologist and a historian, to an island in the Indian Ocean as they dig for hidden treasure allegedly worth 1.2 bn EUR today.
