The drama catalogue comprises the genres crime, comedy, love & romance and drama, as well as event films. We oversee projects and project ideas in the field of story development, project financing and the sale of remake rights and licenses to TV, online and merchandising partners. 

Next to the marketing and sales of a wide variety of programs from the ZDF family, international programs, e.g. from Scandinavia and the English-speaking countries, are also an important component of our acquisition and sales strategy. 

We often work jointly with ZDF editorial teams in our search for premium projects whose top production values and gripping narrative concepts will appeal to both a German and international public. The focus of our acquisitions is on series and event programs as well as stand-alone TV movies or cycles. We acquire projects for global distribution as sales mandates, pre-buys or coproductions. 

ZDF Studios also handles the international financing of series with broadcaster partners and VoD platforms. Among our clients are networks that broadcast around the world. We also work closely with DVD distributors and licensees. 

In the Licensing & Merchandising sector, ZDF Studios – as an exclusive agency of ZDF – manages all the activities of the ZDF program-brand world along with highlights from its own portfolio of rights. ZDF Studios is the partner for licensees in all product categories and markets, in Germany and around the world. The firm devises custom-made and innovative merchandising concepts in close collaboration with its clients.
