ZDF Studios to distribute new premium documentary 'Hitler’s Power'

Mainz, August 7th, 2023

ZDF Studios has secured the worldwide distribution rights for Hitler’s Power (3 x 50’), an in-depth exploration of how and why Hitler rose to power and the terrible events that followed. The three-part documentary features never-seen-before images, new personal testimonies, historical film footage and analysis from renowned experts.

Three top production companies are involved in the making of this high quality series for ZDF's renowned editorial team in contemporary history: Hamburg’s Eco Media, a producer of award-winning unscripted content for over 25 years, has joined up with History Media, specialists in history and science for film and TV, and ZDF Digital, a ZDF Studios subsidiary, to co-produce Hitler’s Power in association with ZDF Studios.

In one of the most consequential moments of the last century, on January 30, 1933, Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany. How did an inconsequential 'nobody' gain such power so quickly and why did people follow his lead? The series looks into why the Nazi leader was confident of the approval of most Germans, even when the war was clearly lost, and what led Germans to support the atrocious crime against humanity, the Holocaust.

Newly discovered photos provide an unusual perspective of Nazi society in times of war and peace. With archive film footage, imagery, documents, personal stories from the early days of the Nazis, graphics and interviews with leading historians, Hitler’s Power sheds a revealing light on the relationship between the leader and the people.

Ralf Rückauer, Vice President Unscripted, ZDF Studios said: “Hitler’s Power is very much a modern look at this period of German history, designed for a young audience that is disconnected from the generation who experienced the war or its aftermath. With the extensive research undertaken and its high production values, the series offers a distinctive and compelling narrative on the rise of Hitler.”
