After a family tragedy, high-flying lawyer Lauren and her husband Ned abandon their city lives and return to the tropical north of Australia where they discover they are now the guardians of Lauren’s orphaned young niece Taya.

Discovering that parenting is no easy task, Ned starts a food truck business while Lauren tries to continue her legal work long distance, but it’s a difficult balance, especially as they have moved in with Lauren’s parents Daffy and Trevor – who are navigating their own relationship as they slowly rekindle their spark.

Meanwhile, Lauren wants to find Taya’s biological father, whose identity Ronelle took to her grave. Enlisting the help of a mysterious cowboy to find him, Lauren is torn – worried that she’s upsetting Ned and Taya’s budding relationship. However, when she discovers Taya’s dad is a Tiwi man, Jarad, Lauren feels certain she should allow Taya access to her Tiwi heritage.

It drives a wedge between her and Ned who feels utterly betrayed.

Things reach fever pitch as a cyclone batters the Top End. Taya is in Tiwi with Jarad, while Lauren, Ned, Daffy and Trevor must wait it out in Darwin. Home truths are revealed – Ned reveals his fear of losing Taya, while Lauren explains her connection to culture and her complicated relationship to family.

Returning to Tiwi to find the cyclone has ripped through the community, Lauren and Ned are reunited with Taya. Lauren and Ned finally find space to reconnect – but not before another complexity is thrown at them… Lauren thinks she may be pregnant !
