From the vacation paradise of Bali to the remote beauty of Sulawesi, the largest archipelago on Earth combines spectacular scenery with incredible biodiversity. Yet, due to logistical challenges and bureaucracy, no film crew – not even the BBC – has comprehensively documented Indonesia’s wildlife. After years of preparation and with unprecedented access, this series offers a unique viewing experience.

Highlights include the first footage of the endangered Sumatran rhinoceros, now under a complete filming ban, an incredibly rare blue flame sulphur volcano, and insights into the lives of Bornean pygmy elephants. For the first time, a film crew captured stunning evidence that primates can combine the usage of a tool with medical knowledge when they filmed an orangutan using a stick to dig for healing clay, and applying it to its face.
