Mainz, October 14th, 2024

Space Nova (15 x 24’), the multi award-winning children’s adventure series, returns to our galaxy with a brand-new season. Distributed internationally by ZDF Studios (excluding Australia and New Zealand) and produced by SLR Productions, this top-selling animated series now totals 41 episodes.

Zooming ahead to another century, it’s 2162 and siblings, Jet and Adelaide Nova, are having a blast living on a space station and accompanying their parents on unearthly missions. The intrepid explorers spend their days hopping rogue planets, surfing solar flares and searching for extraterrestrial life.

Space Nova, a hit with audiences ranging from 6- to 10-year-olds, has also been a hit on the international awards circuit. A winner at the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival (2022), the Australian Writer’s Guild Awards (2020 and 2021) and the Asian Academy Creative Awards (2021), Season 1 was honoured with 8 nominations at major events across the world. Cartoons on the Bay (2021), Australia’s Director’s Guild Awards (2021) and Screen Producer’s Association (2022) along with India’s Golden Bee International Children’s Festival (2022), Germany’s Prix Jeunesse (2022) and the International Animation Film Festival Golden Kuker (2022) are just some of the award ceremonies that nominated Space Nova for a variety of categories.

Buyers from all corners of the globe snapped up the first season, launched in 2021, from ZDF Studios. Amazon (UK, Italy), Brazil’s Globosat, Changzhou (China), Common Sense Networks (Canada, USA), Sweden’s SVT, HBO (Pacific), Middle East News and RTP in Portugal amongst many others, have delighted their young audiences with this hugely entertaining interstellar series.

Arne Lohmann, VP Junior, ZDF Studios said: “Space Nova has it all: endearing characters, great storytelling that captures the imagination and superb animation. I’m delighted to offer our clients the sequel to the Nova’s exciting adventure that began over 130 years in the future.”

Suzanne Ryan, SLR Productions CEO and Executive Producer, said: "The success of Space Nova has been truly incredible, and I’m especially delighted that children from so many corners of the globe are tuning in. This achievement is a testament to the talented team behind the show and our dedicated partners, who have all played a key role in bringing the series to life. It has inspired us to craft an even more thrilling intergalactic adventure for our young audience—one that will take them 'out of orbit!”

At the end of Season 1, the Novas had just met the amazing extraterrestrial beings—the Stardustians. Now, Jet and Adelaide Nova are in for an even bigger adventure when their new friend, a young Stardustian named Ziggy, arrives at Luna Port to learn all about humans! But things take a wild turn when the Novas set out on a journey to Stardustia with Ziggy. Their convoy ship is suddenly hijacked by Judgebot, an old enemy of Luna Port who’s plotting to use the powerful stardust energy for his bot rebellion against humans! In the chaos, Ziggy gets launched into the farthest reaches of the galaxy, and everything starts to spiral out of control. The universe is thrown off balance, and only Ziggy has the power to set things right. Now, the Novas have a crucial mission: team up with Sol—who’s still figuring out his Stardustian powers—alongside new friends, Ulan and Neemti, to track down Ziggy and help him seal a dangerous intergalactic rift before time runs out!

Space Nova is an original SLR Productions’ programme, co-produced with Giggle Garage; commissioned by ABC Australia; financed by Screen Australia and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation. ZDF Studios is the international distributor excluding Australia and New Zealand which is handled by ACTF.
