Sonja Paulsen manages a small dry-cleaning business in Hamburg with her husband. During a preventive medical check-up, Sonja is diagnosed with a malignant tumor in one of her breasts; an operation is unavoidable. Due to a mistake during the operation both of the patient’s breasts are amputated. Sonja Paulsen is physically and emotionally exhausted and on the brink of suicide.
