When her husband dies, Ella Schön inherits not only a house on the peninsula of Fischland and a string of debts, but also Christina and her children, who live in the house. Unable to face a confrontation with her late husband’s ‘second wife’, Ella responds as always when feelings are at stake – she engages auto-pilot, accepts the situation and gets on with her life. She has Asperger syndrome and therefore finds social interaction difficult.
