Business is poor at Elli’s (Michaela May) old-world video parlour, which she had been running with her dead husband Josef. Elli is broke but there is a ray of hope. A letter has arrived from Roberto de Andre (Martin Umbach) in Capri suggesting that Elli may be entitled to an inheritance. On an impulse, she hops into her beetle for the long drive to La Bella Italia. The car breaks down en route but Heinz (Peter Prager), an inveterate globetrotter, offers Elli a ride in his camper. She gets to know life on campgrounds, discovers in Heinz a sensitive man struggling to come to terms with the death of his wife. Elli feels a strong bond between them but it is soon time to part as they approach Naples.
On the ferry to Capri, Elli runs into her sister Doro (Charlotte Schwab) with whom she has had no contact for many years. Doro too has received the same letter from Roberto. Doro has only one explanation for the inheritance: her mother’s love affair with an Italian...
