Antti is laid off from his job at the university. Sini-Marja finds out about it right away, but Antti doesn’t dare to tell the truth to Reija. Reija was already worried about their finances before Antti’s layoff. Antti and Reija’s joint bank account is empty, and when Antti doesn’t have enough money to buy groceries at Lidl, the situation is alarming. Reija tries to manipulate Markus, who lives next door, into taking out a cheap student loan and lending it to his parents, but Markus refuses. Reija tries to come up with survival methods: she collects food samples at the supermarket to bring home and sells her old clothes. But these tricks won’t get them far. When Reija finds out that Antti has been laid off, she almost breaks down. Antti promises that they’ll pull through and points out the positive things that the situation might bring; Reija can focus on creating a career and Antti can stay home with the children. Their financial situation is, however, so severe that their electricity is cut off due to unpaid bills. The automatic door opens, and Reija and Antti meet Markus’s Chinese girlfriend Jinhua Liu for the first time, in the dark.
Arto helps Suvianna by taking care of the appointment bookings for her salon. He also offers to go get Tähtisumu from daycare when Suvianna and Azor want to go on a hike in the forest. But there’s a problem at daycare: Arto is not listed among the people who are allowed to pick Tähtisumu up. Finally a shocked Suvianna, Azor and a confused Tuomas arrive at daycare. Suvianna was supposed to take Tähtisumu to Tuomas’s place. After the incident, Suvianna and Azor get to enjoy a hike in the forest; the goal is to impregnate Suvianna. Tuomas and Tähtisumu visit Erik in his messy apartment; they find out Erik is on sick leave.
Michael Rank has come to visit Laura at her home; he has quickly become infatuated with her. Reija pops in at Laura’s place to borrow toilet paper and sanitary pads. Laura gets momentary relief and invites Reija in as the third wheel to stem the tide of Rank’s overflowing and one-sided admiration.
