An unlikely friendship forms between Frank, a man in the grips of a mid-life crisis, and his 19-year-old neighbour Sascha. Frank’s disillusionment with his marriage, fatherhood and apparent business success have prompted him to attempt suicide, while Sascha, the daughter of wealthy parents, just wants someone to care. In a spontaneous jam session the two let off steam to Nirvana’s "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Shocked by discovering them together, Frank’s unfaithful wife Carmen starts to question her own behaviour and resolves to win Frank back.
