The kidnappers ramp up the pressure on Vera by sending her a package, the contents of which make it clear that the kidnappers are merciless. Vera and Alex receive their daughter’s severed thumb. The kidnappers are willing to reattach it if Vera raises the risk level in line with their demands, but this option remains unacceptable for Vera. She comes up with a plan to put pressure on the kidnappers, and takes LSD right before their eyes.
