Anne’s reason for going to stay with Vera in the Altes Land region was to leave behind a life where nothing seemed to be right anyway. Vera’s gruff manner does not bother her. The farm once again becomes a refuge for a young mother and her child. The picturesque and idyllic Altes Land region is as complex and multifaceted as its inhabitants.
