The documentary „Quest for the Mystery of Rapa Nui“ takes us on the archeological trail of Easter Island, called Rapa Nui by its inhabitants. The small triangle of rock far off in the Pacific Ocean is famous for its giant monolithic statues, also known as “Moai”. But until today, the past of Easter Island poses a riddle to researchers: Why did about 16 million palm trees suddenly vanish though the island had been covered in lush forests before? And why did the Moai start to move? Scientists try to unravel Rapa Nui’s mystery.
