Five times in the history of the planet, life on Earth was almost completely wiped out. The greatest mass extinction event of all time took place around two hundred and fifty million years ago. The Earth came very close to belonging to microbes once again. However, a lucky few survived the mass extinction. Evolution did its job and life returned – with new ideas and new species. But from dinosaur to mammoth, most of these species have since become extinct. Will humans meet the same fate one day?
