Widowed for a year now, Frieda discovers rotten beams in the 300-year-old half-timbering of her inherited homestead, Heckemellersch. The local carpentry firm sends a female carpenter, journeywoman Tinka, who delivers a devastating verdict about the beams. Soon afterwards, historical building conservator Jasmin turns up at Heckemellersch and quickly discovers the homestead is under historical building protection. Frieda urgently needs to begin renovations, but where is she going to get the money to pay for it?
