Blennerhasset and his new assistant Molloy have been commissioned to travel out to Kingstown to photograph a young boy who recently drowned. However a heavy storm kicks up, forcing the men to stay overnight with their hosts, the mourning Breslin family.
As the storm rages, Molloy spots an apparition of the dead boy and drags Blennerhasset on a mission to take a photograph of this apparent apparition. Nancy is introduced to Dublin’s social scene when she attends a party hosted by her degenerate brother Henry and his friends. This is a gathering Detective Frederick Regan also has his eye on, due to the presence of a known peddler of scandalous photography.
