When a body is found in a freezer, Dr. Katrin Stoll and her colleague Henrik Mertens find themselves investigating a crime linked to the introduction of the euro in 2001. With the deutschmark about to become worthless, criminals were suddenly obliged to convert their “dirty money” into the new currency, providing the police with an opportunity to clear up unsolved cases using undercover agents, among them, it transpires, the dead man. With the discovery of old deutschmark banknotes, the case takes a completely new turn for Dr. Stoll as these are linked to the abduction of her own murdered brother.
