After spending many years locked up in a psychiatric hospital, Dieter Milkau is finally discharged. According to the doctor in charge, Professor Gotthardt, he is cured. But just two days later his dead body is found in his apartment; he was beaten to death.
At first all the indications are that Milkau was murdered by someone from his previous life: Jan Arnaud obtains fingerprints at the crime scene that match those of Volker Richter, who was in the same clinic as Milkau and threatened to kill him several years ago when the two men had a fight. However, Joachim Stoll finds it hard to believe that the case is that simple. Instead, he thinks Richter’s fingerprints were placed at the crime scene by someone who wanted to incriminate him.
