On his way home from a dance club, 17-year-old Finn is hit by a car, driven by soon-to-be judge Maxim Vollert. He leaves the seemingly uninjured young man behind, who later succumbs to internal injuries. At Finn’s grave, his brother Mike comes across Sylvie Vollert, who was in the car with her husband the night of the accident. A romantic relationship develops between Mike and Sylvie. She confesses to him what really happened, and wants to leave her husband for him. But she refuses to testify against Maxim in court, because she wants to protect his career, and keep herself from being prosecuted as well.
