A young woman, caught up in terrorist activities, plans the assassination of the boss of Treuhand, an agency established by West Germany to privatize East German companies. This two-part political thriller The Assassination tells a fictional tale based on true events of the early nineties.
Berlin at the beginning of the 1990s: murder victim Hans-Georg Dahlmann is head of the Treuhand agency, and has greater cause to fear for his life than most in reunified Germany: a target of the Red Army Faction, hated by sections of the East German population, and in conflict with West German companies, which will do anything to prevent the creation of competition in East Germany. On his side: his young assistant Sandra Wellmann.
Yet Sandra Wellmann is secretly pursuing a very different course: As member of the Third Generation RAF, she was planted with Dahlmann as an informant in order to provide information to terrorists Bettina Pohlheim and Klaus Gelfert on Dahlmann's whereabouts and his security procedures. While Sandra learns the ropes and gains Dahlmann's trust, an attack is carried out on Wegner, the chairman of German bank Vereinsbank, in which he is killed.
The lead Federal Criminal Police investigator Andreas Kawert takes on the investigation and attempts to provide protection for Dahlmann, the next potential victim. Suddenly thrown into center stage, Sandra Wellmann starts to reconsider what she actually stands for. A race against time begins.
