The 11-year-old son of the Frankfurt von Metzler banking family is kidnapped on September 27, 2002 on his way home from school in the city of Frankfurt am Main. The kidnapper demands one million Euro. The day after the ransom is handed over, Magnus Gäfgen, a law student acquainted with Jakob von Metzler, is arrested. But he refuses to talk and gives no indication of Jakob’s whereabouts. In the hopes of finding the boy alive, Wolfgang Daschner, deputy police chief at the time, permits his subordinate, Chief Inspector Ortwin Ennigkeit, to threaten the kidnapper with the use of force. This film is based on the true story of the abduction and murder of Jakob von Metzler.
