Episode 2: Let's Get Physical

  • New

Episode two of “Wild Talk”  looks at the latest science around how animals communicate with each other by using a variety of visual signals and physical movements. Some of the fascinating visual methods of talking animals use include the beautiful display of the male peacock who some scientists think may be “hypnotising” the female with the mesmeric eyespot that lies amongst his feathers. We also look at the spectacular breeching behaviour of the male humpback whale that launches itself out of the water and smashes down into the sea below. Scientists now think it may be a form of communication because he is sending a message to other whales in the area that he is ready to mate.  Both of these examples show just how diverse animal communication is and the myriad of remarkable physical movements animals use to talk to each other.
