At the Duckdalben International Seamen’s Club in the port of Hamburg, a temporary haven for sailors from all over the world, a young Ethiopian man makes an excited video call to his mother on the other side of the world. A short time later, a massive container ship departs from the port, guided by an Elbe pilot. The pilot witnesses a figure falling from the ship’s bow, but the vessel continues its journey undeterred.
