Tensions in the Oliver/Albert household begin to rise when Mark’s parents, Liz and Bernie (Nancye Hayes and Roy Billing), surprise everyone with a visit. Mark unsuccessfully tries to hide his recent redundancy from his mother, but she thinks it’s the perfect opportunity for him to start over – in his career and marriage. Mark finally finds the courage to stand up to Liz, but the relief of speaking out is short-lived; a sudden tragedy devastates the family and challenges Mark’s perception of his parents. Justin has moved his family in with Lewis while his house is under repair. While he’s grateful for the assistance, being forced to rely on his mate yet again makes Justin realise how much he needs some independence. An offer from Nick makes it possible for him to strike out on his own, but jeopardises his relationship with Lewis. When Gemma gets St Michael’s for her internship placement, both Abi and Gemma secretly hope they’re not paired up as supervisor and intern. Working so closely together could spell disaster for their friendship, but someone in the hospital thinks it’s exactly what they need.
