Eleven-year-old Emma Grainer is about to undergo a liver transplant when she collapses under terrible pains during a picknick with her mother. Dr. Gruber diagnoses the return of a virus that could attack the new organs and make the transplant almost impossible. Dr. Kahnweiler suggests to wait and transplant the liver of the dry alcoholic Fuchs. Martin is against this; waiting could cost Emma’s life. He notices, however, that Fuchs’ hands are trembling: is he drinking again? Katja Grainer is not ready to simply sacrifice her daughter, and tries everything possible to find out the identity of the receiver. On the Gruber farm, Hans and Martin are once again not seeing eye to eye. A number of problems are pulling strongly at the fabric of the farm, which seems to make a sale inevitable – in spite of Martin’s commitment. It appears to be a knot that no one can undo...
