This is the story of the Hagenbeck family, which owns and runs the zoo bearing the same name in Hamburg. Martha Hagenbeck is the senior executive in charge of the family business. She and her son Christoph manage the zoo. But the zoo’s existence is threatened, and Christoph fights to keep it afloat. His brother Thomas marries into a wealthy banking family and his sister Miriam decides to become a veterinarian, to everyone’s amazement.
