Hans Sperling and co-worker Karsten Rohde more or less accidentally becomes witnesses to a bank robbery when a bank robber literally runs into their car while fleeing. After a short pursuit, they manage to convince the robber to give himself up. They arrest him, and Sperling immediately sees that Wolfgang Krause does not fit the image of an unscrupulous bank robber. He finds out from Krause’s wife that her husband is quite the notorious gambler, and it soon becomes obvious that moneylenders are leaning hard on him.
