Valérie has fallen in love with the city of Bruges and has big plans. She abandons her career as a lawyer, so she and her boyfriend Jan can open an upscale chocolate shop there, in what used to be her mother’s house. But Jan actually has a very different vision of his future. Valérie distances herself more and more from him, and begins to take a liking to Miguel Fernandez, a South American cocoa farmer she initially found loathsome.
