The system of Nazi forced labour became increasingly radical. Slav prisoners in particular were categorized as “sub-human“ and suffered terribly from the racism of the German population. That was especially true for Soviet prisoners of war and civilian “Eastern Workers“. By 1942 forced labour was deployed on a gigantic scale, including by private industry. The longer the war went on, the greater the German losses, the more workers were imported into the Reich as forced labourers.
