This film documents the escalation of the Nazi forced labour system. As the war neared its end, more and more forced labourers died: through work, on the Death Marches, and by mass murder. After the war, the fate of the forced labourers was denied and concealed in both west and east Germany. Post-reunification, there were inadequate attempts to reappraise the crime, socially and legally. But compensation has remained largely symbolic. Many survivors have still received no compensation at all.
