Malte Angersbach, the ambitious son of an entrepreneur, is found dead, shortly after his father announced his intention to take over a prosperous construction company. Coincidence? Patriarch Borris Angersbach only made it to the top of the company by marrying Luise Angersbach. His stepson Kai distanced himself from the family at an early age, making a career fighting his loathsome stepfather’s business activities. During their investigation of Malte’s murder, chief inspectors Marie Brand and Jürgen Simmel find out that Kai was once the victim of a kidnapping that was never reported to the police.
