Until 1914, Europe dominates the world through its industries and colonies. After 1945, everything lies in ruins. The USA in the West and the USSR in the East are the new global superpowers vying for preeminence. Between them, the Iron Curtain slowly descends across Europe. Under American protection from the Communist “Red Menace”, France and Germany revive and patch relations, together becoming the driving force to unite Europe. But financial and refugee crises now pose new challenges to unity.
