Dr. Til Desno is a facial trauma plastic surgeon in Berlin, and in his legal role as an expert witness, he is responsible for reconstructing faces. When a mummified corpse is found in the marshes of the Spreewald region, Til is tasked with reconstructing the face. The dead man turns out to be a friend from his high school days, who was said to have escaped to the West in exchange for betraying his friends to the Secret Police, including Til.
