When you hit the age of 60, you’re fired – this is the motto of the company Anne has spent 25 years of her life working for. But strictly speaking, the company’s obsession with youth only appears to apply to women, as Anne’s colleague Leonard, who is almost the same age, is promoted to partner at the time of her firing. Anne’s involuntary retirement plunges her into financial problems. Officially, she is now fulfilling her life’s dream of a small house by the sea. Unofficially, however, Anne has no idea how she is going to pay the workmen’s bills for the beach house she now owns, originally advertised as ‘having potential’, which translates as ‘needs a lot of work’.
