New York’s publishing dynamo Ann and Rick Withers has only been separated for a few months now, but Rick is already in a new relationship with the author Mina Melrose. Precisely now, after years of waiting, Ann and Rick are told by the adoption bureau that it finally has a baby for them. The mother is the 16-year-old Lynette, who is looking for the ideal parents for her baby. Complications are inevitable, and things don’t look too good for Ann and Rick either, who are trying to keep their separation a secret in the interest of their publishing house. Lynette, in turn, also isn’t quite what she pretends to be.
