Helen Carter decides to put herself to the test by quitting her old job and finally finishing her medical degree. But embarking on her new life as a student is far from easy. Helen’s professor doesn’t think much of students who get their calling later in life, and is particularly critical of them. Then her son Louis suddenly appears on her doorstep, his leg in a cast, determined to move back in and enjoy the service at mom’s place. From his childhood room, he manages to thwart Helen’s flirtation with likeable guy Marc Bloom. Louis has also gotten his girlfriend Sarah Ferrante pregnant, yet he refuses to accept any responsibility. Caring for her offspring who won’t leave the nest is taking up more and more of her time, putting Helen increasingly under pressure.
