Nuremberg, 1593: executioner Frantz Schmidt lives a life between awe and loathing. Although he ensures law and order as an executioner, the stigma of “dishonesty” is attached to him and his family. He left behind a journal. In it, he lists the sentences he carried out during his career as an executioner, in the hope that one day he will avert the dishonour that has fallen upon his family.
