Richard Johnson, a one-time bank robber who spent several decades in Brazilian exile, returns to Cornwall accompanied by his son Fernando after the statute of limitations expires. Richard had received an invitation to the wedding of his daughter Rose. Richard’s deepest wishes seem to be coming true: his daughter and their mother Marian have forgiven him. Sadly, this hope is nipped in the bud when he realizes that neither Rose nor his great love Marian are interested in reinstating the family; others, however, have more interest in the prodigal son: Inspector James Barnes, for instance, the son of the investigator of the robbery at that time, and Richard’s future son-in-law Dennis, an allegedly serious lawyer. It becomes clear to Richard that he has been lured into a trap and that he can only protect his family if he agrees to make a deal with the police.
