What Lena does every day is far from being everyday: she’s a midwife in a Berlin hospital, where delivering babies is a matter of routine. After a futile attempt to save an unborn baby, and another argument with her boyfriend, Lena packs her things and sets out for the family farm in the Alpine foothills. The greeting is cool. Mother Eva has a hard time running the farm alone since her husband’s death, and granddad Leo does nothing but complain. In the village, Lena runs into Maria, pregnant and underage, who soon goes into labor at the local inn and, with Lena’s help, delivers a healthy baby. Ersun, a local teacher, falls for Lena, and vice versa. But now Lena must find Maria, who has disappeared. Lena begs her former best friend Julia to help her search for Maria, but Julia has sworn never to have anything to do with Lena again…
